XNS is a naming service built on the Canton Network that allows you to register human-readable names (like 'acmebank.canton') that can be linked to your party ID. Think of it as a domain name system for the Canton ecosystem.

To register a canton name, simply search for your desired name on the homepage. If it's available, you'll see an option to continue to registration. You'll need to sign in with your account and complete the registration process through your Canton Loop wallet.

On our first launch we allowed for 5 canton names per party ID. However, going forward you will only be able to register 1 canton name per party ID. Make sure you choose wisely!

A Party ID is a unique identifier in the Canton ecosystem that represents an entity on the ledger. When you register a canton name, it gets linked to your Party ID, making it easier for others to find and interact with you using a human-readable name.

Yes, canton names have an expiration date. You'll be notified before your name expires so you can renew it. If a name expires and is not renewed, it becomes available for others to register.

We will shortly be releasing the functionality to extend the expiry of your name via your account page. Until this time, expiry extensions will be free for existing users.

Canton names must be between 3 and 63 characters long, can only contain lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, and cannot start or end with a hyphen. All names end with the '.canton' suffix.

Currently, canton name transfers are not directly supported through the web interface. If you need to transfer a name, please contact support for assistance with the process.

For a limited time, registration is free when completed through your Canton Loop wallet. Standard pricing and payment options through Stripe may be enabled in the future.

Canton Loop is a wallet provided by Five North that allows you to send and receive transactions on the Canton network. Your Canton Loop wallet is used to verify your partyId and, in future, extend the expiry of your canton name with Canton Coin.
